12th June St Andrews Reconnaissance Trip

With Peter's graduation tomorrow he wanted to go and collect tickets in advance and check out where he has to go to collect his gown, have photos taken and the venue for the garden party. So we've enjoyed a full day doing all these things and more.
First stop was seeing if there are parking spaces where he normally parks near the Maths Department. With a graduation this afternoon it gave a fairly good indication as to whether parking spots would be available or not when we arrive tomorrow for 8.15am. Loads of spaces so fingers crossed that we won't have any problems parking in the morning.

We were then given a tour of the Maths Department and neighbouring Physics building where he had lectures and tutorials. With no students about as term has finished, he confidently walked into lecture theatres, turned on lights and showed us into various rooms. Until he threw open a door and realised it was in use. He, Ian and I made a quick getaway 😂.

We then bumped into the parents of the another Maths student who Peter originally met on his very first day when doing the Pier Walk. We'll be seeing them again tomorrow. After Peter had collected his tickets he was hungry so we had an early lunch before we had a pretty energetic afternoon.

All set to tuck in.

Maybe the last time he plays in the music department.

About to start the pier walk. A very narrow wall to start with 😬.

You definitely get wobbly legs on the start of the pier walk as it's so narrow and high. Not for the faint hearted.

St Andrews cathedral. Trying out the variety of places to get decent graduation photos tomorrow.

In the Wardlaw Museum we learnt about the history of the university. Lots of interactive stuff kept us entertained.

This is the original approval for a university to be established in St Andrews, signed by the pope in 1413. The original is only displayed during graduation week each year.

Traditionally it's unlucky to step on the PH initials. If you do superstition says you fail your exams unless you go for a dip in the sea.

Before leaving for the day Peter checked in the library that all books had been returned - I didn't want him to risk a fine.

Back to the flat we had the use of a lawnmower so Ian got straight down to mowing. With Peter on the strimmer the garden waste bin was soon full.

Lovely, long lush grass.

We had to get some string out to help work out where the half way line is. As you can see the neighbour isn't keen on mowing.

We're going to have a busy day tomorrow. Leaving at 7.45am. Just hope my feet will be up to it in my smart shoes. My feet are used to comfortable and sensible walking sandals. I'll report back on the state of my feet tomorrow evening.
