21st March Cairns via Karunda

I better start off by letting you know that after a good night's sleep and a diet of water and Vegemite on toast I am now fully recovered. I think Freddie and Ian enjoyed the peace and quiet 😄.

Firstly a few photos from yesterday's crocodile excursion provided by my junior reporters.

A small saltwater croc.

I've been reliably informed that there's a big croc in this picture.

Anyway today we woke to sunshine and sadly I had to consign my comfy sandals to the bin after 8 weeks of solid faithful wear through rain, mud, seawater and sunshine. The strap had broken and even Ian couldn't mend it.

We headed south towards Cairns hoping to get up to Karunda village in the rainforest on our way. Hoping because the roads have been closed due to December's cyclone damage. Some of the beaches were still in a bit of a state and there were several hold ups as roads were down to one lane where roads had collapsed. We managed to make it all the way up to Karunda village for the markets.

Unfortunately the Karunda Scenic Railway is still closed because of debris on the line and some areas of collapse. We spoke to the Station Master who was getting a bit frustrated with the closures as all he can do is clean and garden!

We drove down to Barron Falls where the falls were really rushing after the recent rain. The noise of the water was really loud.

A bit of photo bombing going on.

Anyway, after we arrived at our accommodation in Cairns it was straight in the pool. Then a walk down the promenade to the night markets while we have dry weather. Tomorrow is looking a bit damp so no idea what we're up to until we wake up.
