18th March Got to Port Douglas

6am this morning we were awoken by 3 cockatoos having a screaming match! It sounded like something was being strangled at height as they were sitting up in the palm tree in the back garden of the house we stayed in. Amy and Freddie slept through it all as their room was at the front!

So as Ian and I were out in the garden looking to see what was going on it was a good time to put the kettle on for an early breakfast as we were wide awake! At least the weather was looking dry.

Anyway we had a drive through rainforest and down the hills to Port Douglas. On our way we had several hold ups for road works as they are still working on clearing the roads from the last cyclone a few months ago. Half the hillside seems to have come down here with roads only recently opened for one way traffic.

A view over Port Douglas. At least we've had a clearer day for views today.

We headed straight for the marina to see what snorkelling trips are available based on the weather conditions for the next few days. We're booked on one in the outer reef tomorrow (Ian did some bartering so we got a good price 😁) so fingers crossed for dry weather.

Up on Flagstaff Hill overlooking Four Mile Beach the other side of the peninsula to the marina.

The Old Lighthouse - although Ian noticed it says AGA on the door so maybe it's an oven 🤔.

We're settled into our rather plush accomodation for the next 3 nights. So going to cool off in the pool as it's about 35C and very humid. The air conditioning is working hard to keep the rooms cool - but thankfully we've got it as we have stayed in some places without it.

Looking forward to our trip tomorrow 🥽.
